The AMD Socket AM2 (renamed from Socket M2), is a CPU socket designed by AMD for desktop processors, including the performance, mainstream and value market segments. It was released in 2006, as a replacement for Socket 939 & Socket 754. AMD Socket AM2+ is the successor to Socket AM2. Socket AM2+ is used by several AMD processors such as Athlon 64 X2, and is fully compatible with Socket AM2. AM3+ is AMD's latest socket. Socket FM1 is a socket for mid-class and budget AMD desktop microprocessors, built on 32nm technology. The socket was introduced in July 2011.
