Processor Cooling for Peace and Performance!

Continuing their amazing innovation in the cooler market, we are proud to announce Zalman's latest brainchild, the CNPS5700D-CU. This cooler features a full copper vertical fin design, combined with an adjustable ducting to allow extraction of hot air directly from the case, giving the lowest possible CPU temperature.

The cooler's 80mm fan is mounted directly above the heatsink so that it pulls air upward from the processor, rather than pushing air downward as would be the more conventional design. Efficiency of heat dissipation is achieved through the use of copper fins, and a 360° fin arrangement. The product is compatible with all S478 Pentium 4 CPUs, and for small form-factor cases, the ducting can be removed to leave an extremely capable and quiet low-profile cooler (just 67mm high, including fan).

Using the ducting will give a lower CPU temperature of around 5°C, and will also be extremely beneficial in terms of hot air extraction from inside the PC case generally. Reliability of components such as hard drives, CD/DVD drives, graphics cards and power supplies will be improved as a direct result of the lower ambient temperature inside the case, and therefore stability will also be improved.

The cooler ducting can be used with or without an additional case fan mounted on the PC chassis. By positioning the ducting so that it blows air toward such a case fan, even lower temperatures can be achieved, although a case fan is not necessary since even a fan venting grille location on the case will allow hot air to escape - the hot air will be pushed through the case venting by the CPU cooler fan at the base of the duct. And because the ducting can be rotated, extraction of air through venting on the base of the PSU is also a possibility. Here are two pictures showing the heatsink with the fan and ducting removed, so you can see the internal fin design:

The speed of the fan is controlled using a Fan Mate variable voltage regulator which is supplied with the product, so you can set this manually to the speed you require, for best balance between noise and temperature. At its lowest speed setting, adequate cooling is achieved even for the fastest processors, and the fan is almost completely inaudible. Animated installation instructions are available.

It is recommended that you try to keep your CPU temperature below 70-75°C for reliable operation, but there will be no problem achieving this with the CNPS5700D-CU. In practice, temperatures as low as 35-50°C are often achievable. Because of its design, the cooler will appeal to people who need a quiet computer, and minimum CPU and case temperature. It may also be of interest to customers who do not like the idea of the overhead fan bracket which comes with the Flower coolers, either for reasons of access or non-convention. With its ducting attached, the cooler will give lower CPU and system temperatures, and without its ducting, it will be useful in very small PC cases, where space is restricted.

Please note that the maximum weight for a S478 heatsink is specified as 450g by Intel. Since the weight of this heatsink with duct slightly exceeds this figure, special care should be taken when the computer is moved. Neither we nor the manufacturer can be responsible for any damage to a system or a CPU occurring when a PC is transported with an overweight heatsink in situ.
